Course Objectives:

Upon completion of training, students will be able to:

v Prepare correspondence and inspection reports

v Identify the applicable code or standard for fire protection, fire prevention and life safety

v Carry out fire safety inspections of new and existing properties and structures

v Inspect means of escape elements

v Determine the operational readiness of existing fixed fire suppression systems

v Determine the operational readiness of existing portable fire extinguishers

v Understand fire protection symbols and terminology

v Read Plans

v Understand the classification of properties

Course Aim:

To qualify students to carry out fire inspections to the performance level for Fire Inspector 1 as per the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 1031 Professional Qualification

v Preparing inspection reports 

v Interpreting codes and standards

v Recognising the need for plan review

v How to carry out fire inspections

v Identifying the occupancy classification of user occupancy

v Inspecting means of egress 

v how to work out occupancy loading factors 

v Reading plans

v Determining theoperational readiness of existing portable fire extinguishers

v Understanding fire protection symbols and terminology

v The ability to observe and make decisions and recognise problems 

v Recognising hazardous conditions

v Inspecting emergency access for an existing site

v Basic fire behaviour

v Flame spread and smoke development
